The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published new standards for basmati rice, which will come into effect on August 1, 2023. The new standards specify the identity standards for basmati rice varieties, including brown, milled, parboiled, and milled parboiled. Basmati rice must possess the natural fragrance characteristic of basmati rice and be free from artificial coloring, polishing agents, and artificial fragrances. The FSSAI norms on aromatic and long-grain rice aim to establish fair practices in the trade and protect consumer interest, both domestically and globally. The annual production of basmati rice in India is around 8.5 to 9 million tonnes, and India accounts for two-thirds of its global supply. Adv. Samarjeet Singh (Amritsar)

In 2022, the Indian government relaxed norms for setting up petrol pumps, allowing non-oil companies with a net worth of Rs 250 crore to venture into the business, subject to certain conditions such as installing facilities for marketing at least one new generation alternate fuel within three years

1. Petrol pump owners are required to obtain licenses or franchises from any one of the public and private sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs)

2.  They have certain rights and responsibilities, such as the right to test the quality of petrol and diesel, and the duty to provide free air and drinking water to customers

It is important for petrol pump owners to stay updated on any changes in regulations and comply with all the rules and regulations to ensure the smooth functioning of their business. Adv. Samarjeet Singh (Amritsar)

New Menu Labeling Laws for Food Restaurants

1. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced new menu labeling laws that target food restaurants, requiring them to mention the required details about the food on the menu, including nutritional information and ingredients information, along with health messages.                      2. The labeling rules apply to pre-packaged food and food served in restaurants

3. Additionally, there are laws and regulations in India that govern the food industry, including the mandatory compliance of restaurants to ensure food safety and hygiene.

It is important for restaurant owners to stay updated on any changes in regulations and comply with all the rules and regulations to ensure the smooth functioning of their business. Adv. Samarjeet Singh (Amritsar)
